I don't know what to do about this boy?

So there's this boy that I like but he went out with one of my friends. They broke uo about a month ago and ever since then I have wanted to ask him out. My friend will be fine if I do ask him out (she's had loads of boyfriends since him) but I don't know whether I should ask him out or not. I know that he sees me as a friend but I don't know if he likes me anymore than that. I don't want to ruin my friendship with him but I really, really like him (possibly even love him) and I don't want to let this oppurtunity slip by. What should I do? Please help!
