Why are drivers so reckless these days?

It seems there is a growing inconsideration for pedestrians, drivers still keep their heads turned to the left as they're turing right as they're about to hit a crossing pedestrian. Can anyone please explain to Me why this is happening? What would be a solution to get rid of this problem?
